Course: Biology and Biotechnology Laboratory Technology
We humans have always been intrigued by the variety of living things that surround us. Biologists seek to satisfy that curiosity by studying the creatures with which we share our planet. Some biologists, biotechnologists, look at organisms, their biochemistry, and their genes in order to create commercial products.
If you major in laboratory technology, you won’t become a biologist, but you will be trained to assist one. Who knows? You could be part of a team that develops a new drought-resistant seed or discovers a new miracle drug.
Students in this major prepare to assist biologists and biotechnologists in conducting research and experiments at universities, for the government, and in industry.
Did You Know?
Many technicians help scientists conduct important medical research, such as the search for a cure for AIDS.

Course Spotlight
In an introductory biotechnology course, you’ll learn about the history of the field as well as the latest advances. You’ll also get a grounding in the subject’s terminology. Additionally, the class will cover the many ethical questions related to biotechnology, the scientific instruments used in this field, and DNA.
In the lab section of the class, you’ll learn the basic techniques needed for a career in biotechnology.
