Course: Horticultural Services
Do you have a green thumb? Would you like to run a business? Then a program in horticultural services may be for you. Horticulture is the science of growing plants. It involves plant propagation (the reproduction of plants) and pruning and training plants. It’s also about controlling light, water, temperature, and soil to create the best environment for plant growth.
In a horticultural services program, you’ll learn the horticultural and business skills you’ll need to run a plant nursery, an orchard, a greenhouse, a garden center, or a floral shop.
Horticultural services majors learn how to care for plants, trees, flowers, and other plant materials. They also learn how to run a business connected with these plants.

It takes careful planning to keep cut flowers fresh and plants healthy. You’ll learn about the storage, delivery, and inventory-control systems used in floral shop and nurseries.

Through lectures and field trips to nearby greenhouses, you’ll learn how to create the best environment to grow high quality plants and flowers. You’ll also pick up management and marketing skills that will help your own business grow.
