Course: Lactation Consultant

If you choose this program, you’ll learn how to advise and support women who are breastfeeding. You’ll study the anatomy and physiology of lactation (the production of human milk), nutrition, and specialized breastfeeding instruction. You’ll also explore breastfeeding methods and investigate solutions to problems women experience with breastfeeding. Additional topics include professional and legal concerns and breastfeeding advocacy. Graduates may choose to work in hospitals, clinics, or doctors’ offices, or set up their own practices. To become certified, you’ll need to pass an exam and complete an internship.
