Course: Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies
Why do humans clash? It may be two neighbors disagreeing over a fence or a devastating worldwide war. Whatever a conflict’s scale, students of peace and conflict resolution seek the causes. They hope eventually to use their skills to help prevent war and encourage peace.
Students of peace and conflict resolution study the teachings of peacemakers such as Martin Luther King, Jr. They also examine the philosophy, sociology, and psychology of war and peace. And they put their knowledge into action by applying concepts to real-world situations, interning at local organizations or even forming their own.
The study of peace and conflict resolution is devoted to the origins, resolution, and prevention of conflict between both individuals and countries.

Course Spotlight
In an internship, you’ll have the chance to enhance your studies with a real-world learning experience. You may develop a semester-long project with a local organization. For example, you might help a human rights organization interview people who want to apply for asylum (protection given to political refugees).
You’ll report on your progress regularly, meeting with a professor at least once a week. At the end of the semester, you may be required to write a long paper or series of essays on your experience.
