Course: Science Technology
The scientific method requires controlled experiments that are as free from error as humanly possible. Scientists need help in developing and maintaining their labs and equipment so that their experiments and research are accurate.
Science technicians play a key role in helping them meet this goal. They monitor experiments and make sure that everything goes as planned.
Students of science technology learn the principles of science as well as the technical skills needed to assist research scientists.
Did You Know?
Getting your degree in this program opens the door to jobs in a wide range of industries, from pharmaceuticals to biomedicine to food processing.
Are You Ready To...?
- Complete an internship
- Learn how to track tests of scientific products
- Record and analyze data from experiments
- Learn the skills you’ll need in science as well as the analytical techniques you’ll need to work in a lab
- Write lab reports
- Work in the classroom, but also in the lab
It Helps To Be...
Into the natural sciences (like biology or ecology) and the physical sciences (like astronomy, physics, and chemistry). If you like science and working in a controlled environment, such as a lab setting, you will enjoy this major.
College Checklist
- Will you be able to focus on the sciences that interest you most?
- If the program awards an associate’s degree, will it prepare you for a career or for transfer to a four-year university?
- Will the program help you find an internship?
- Will you be trained on the latest lab equipment?
Did You Know?
Science technicians use cutting-edge high-tech equipment, including robots.
Course Spotlight
In an introductory biology course, you’ll get an overview of the science of life. You’ll learn about the five major divisions of life on earth, including plants and animals. You’ll also cover such subjects as genetics, evolution, ecology, and the structure and activities of cells. The course will most likely include lab work.
